So my birthday was last week and it was a lot of fun. I’m 21 again. Thursday was my special day and my bosses were really nice and got me roses, mac & cheese, a Spanish magazine (TV y Novelas), and a gift certificate to my favorite restaurant. It was a pretty nice day.
That night I really wanted tortilla soup for dinner and I was hoping that Paco would be off so that he could make it for me, but he had to work. Luckily I studied him last time he made it and was smart enough to write it all down. Unfortunately I take bad notes and my handwriting was sloppy, so it took a while to figure out what I had written down.
I got it all cooked and washed the dishes and put them away, then went to taste the soup and something was not right. I must have done something wrong because it came out a little watered down and I had to rush to fix it before he got home from work. I did not want him to see that I had messed up my first try at his “secret” recipe. I was able to fix it, but that meant re-using all the dishes I had just washed! I knew I should have tasted it BEFORE I washed the dishes! It ended up coming out pretty darn good though. I was quite pleased with myself.
Friday was my birthday dinner, which I started off thinking I wanted it to be a small affair, but ended up kind of big. I wanted to keep it small because I like to be able to spend time with everyone and chat around the table. When it’s too big it becomes hard to socialize with everyone. Dinner was great and I think we all had a good time hanging out. Paco was worried that it was going to be all women at my part because the only guys I invited were him, his brother, and Eric. We had a nice mix of people and enough Spanish speakers (9 out of 15) so that Paco and his mother wouldn’t be bored.
Paco’s mother got me my favorite present, which is a beautiful sterling silver dog tag with a gold Virgin of Guadalupe on it. The dog tag is about 3 times as thick as a normal one and it has a diamond in the bottom left corner. I’ve tried taking a picture of it, but it doesn’t come out.
Tuesday we had a little birthday party to celebrate all of the recent office birthdays, including mine, Heather’s, Tracy’s, and Lisa’s. I should have taken some pictures there, but I forgot. Pity.
This weekend if Eric’s awesome Halloween party and I’m extremely excited about that. I’ll try to remember to take a bunch of pictures.
