Today I am in a good mood. I finally got enough sleep and I feel so MUCH BETTER. I’m still a little congested, but I don’t feel miserable anymore.
Friday night, after work, I went to Dustin’s going away party. He’s moving to South America (Argentina?) for two months. He had his party at a park in the hood… serious HOOD. I had to park my truck where I could keep it in full view at all times.
He reserved a pavilion, but that didn’t stop all the little hoodlums from crossing right through all night long. The first time it was a bunch of little hoodlums that were screaming at each other and cussing, then decided to stop at one of our tables to continue their fight. Later I saw the main screamer at another table beating on some boy.
Two VERY small kids, maybe 6 or 7, were wandering around by themselves and we overheard a snippet of their conversation that was something like, “Did you see the guy in the car with the gun?” Yet, they weren’t scared. They could have easily been talking about a guy with a dog in the car, as calm as they were about it.
Later on, a mother showed up to get her daughter, who turned out to be one of the screamers from before. Oooh, she was cussing her daughter out like I have never heard before, and then the stupid little girl tried to say something and she got the smack of a lifetime. Mom missed her cheek, but slapped her so hard on the neck (by the ear) that she almost fell down. All of this went down about 10 feet from out table.
After that, our pavilion got invaded by a bunch of Latino families, and we just decided to share… provided that they were quiet and behaved, which they were. I swear one of them was a tenant of my company.
I was feeling so sick Friday night, that I had to leave early. I think Dustin’s dog may have been making me feel worse, because once I left, I felt much better. When I’m tired, my allergies really kick my butt, and I was exhausted.
Saturday, was my Target drama (read previous post). I spent the day relaxing, and napping. When Paco got home at 6ish, we went out. We went out to dinner at this crazy little Mexican restaurant on Lamar. I think it was called Pollo y Carne, or something like that. OMG! They had big flat screen TV’s hanging in the corners of the place and all of them were set to some Hip Hop station of MTV, and the volume was up so loud that you couldn’t hear anything… yet it wasn’t the type of place where this would be acceptable. It was clearly a small family restaurant. We did not enjoy it. You know when Paco says it’s loud, it’s REALLY LOUD, because that boy is deaf.
We stopped by his mom’s house for a bit so he could help her figure out how to use her voicemail on her phone. That was an experience. We actually had to help his brother too. We had to show them how to record their greetings, their names, and check their messages. It was not going well because the prompts were in English, so I called Sprint and had them change the voicemail settings to Spanish. I’m so smart.
Paco wanted to go down to the Gay Pride Parade, but I knew it was not going to work because the parade was supposed to start at 8, and it was already 8:15. There was no way we were going to find parking, but I agreed to drive down there anyway… and of course, I was right.
We went to Amy’s Ice Cream in the Arbor instead. We got ice cream and walked around the Arboretum, then went home to watch Notes on a Scandal.
I was not excited about watching it because I had assumed it was about something political or lawer-like. YAWN. I was very happy to find out it was in fact scandalous and gossipy, and about a teacher having an affair with a student.
We both like the movie a lot and decided that Dame Judi Dench should definitely have won the Oscar over Helen Mirren. Dench was great in this movie and totally psycho. I loved it!
5 minutes until eight and I’m finished updating! I have a ton of rent checks to process today and I’m all by myself in the office.
Oh yeah, I spent a lot of time this weekend making new website layouts for www.heatherknowsaustin.com, www.franciscoascary.com, and my own website… if you hadn’t notice already. I haven’t made Heather’s public yet. I have to check with her to see if she likes it first.
