Thank the LORD my boyfriend FINALLY got a car. Ugh, it has been nothing but problems for him trying to buy a car and it has dragged on for three weeks now. This jerk salesman he was working with was such a liar! Unfortunately he didn’t have much of an option to switch to another rep because this was the only guy that spoke Spanish.

When he first went to the dealer the guy told him he was approved for a certain amount. Then Paco asked which cars were under that amount, because they are not priced on the lot. The guy pointed out a few cars and Paco test drove some. He test drove a Chevy Malibu and really liked it, so that was the one he decided to get. The salesrep Tomas “Tommy” Martinez (Roger Beasley Mazda used car sales) goes into the office and starts the paperwork, and things start to go wrong. He comes back out of the manager’s area and tells Paco that he was wrong about the price of the car and that it’s actually $3000 more than what he originally stated, and out of Paco’s price range…. but wait.. then he’s tells Paco to go ahead an leave your $2000 down payment and take the car and that they’ll work it all out later. Um. NO.

Paco was FURIOUS. Tommy wanted Paco’s friend to co-sign so that Paco could afford the car, but Paco just wanted to leave. When he came home and told me, I was furious! That is a bait and switch tactic and that is ILLEGAL, or at least I’m 99% sure it is. I told Paco I would go back to the lot with him on Monday and help him straighten things out.

When went back this guy just continued his lies. We had done some investigating on the internet and found the car on that same dealer’s website for even less. So I told Paco we would go back in and demand the web price. Paco wasn’t sure we’d get it, but I sure was! I was going to throw a huge fit, threaten to file a complain with the BBB, and do whatever else I could until they would agree to give it to him for the web price.

So at this point I hadn’t been to the lot with him and hadn’t seen the guy. Monday afternoon we went together and I finally got to see this doofus. He seriously looked like Ed Grimley, or at least a Hispanic version!

When we got there he was with a couple and so we waited a little while, then decided to go eat, then return. When we returned he was with another couple. He saw us and came over to talk. Paco asked him if he was busy and he said no, but just to give him a minute. Ok… 30 minutes later and we’re still waiting on him. He comes out and asks for 10 more minutes. Oh, I was so fed up, but I was also tired of having to share a car, so I was willing to wait to sort this out.

When he finally came out to deal with us, Paco just took over and started in on the guy. I was surprised because Paco had been telling me that he wanted me to handle it for him. I was willing, but I wasn’t going to cut him off and override him. He was complaining to the guy about the bait and switch deal he pulled that last time he was in, and then he asked him for the internet price on the car.

So Tommy tells him that the internet price is only for people with good credit. Ok, now I’m 100% that you can not offer a different price to people with good credit and no credit. I heard him say that and I was so mad, but I didn’t want to cut Paco off to fight with the guy because I thought it would be kind of emasculate to Paco. So I decided to wait for my chance to help.

After Tommy went back in to talk to the manager about lowering the price, I decided to do some investigating on my own. So I went and found another salesman and asked him about the internet price. He said that the internet price is so that when people are at home looking on the web they will see the cheap price and drive to the lot and they will honor the price on the lot. SNAPS.

Well, luckily we didn’t have to fight much because Tommy came back out and gave us the price we wanted. So we started all the paperwork and the processes, but being the idiot that Tommy is, he pulled another one on us. After we had been working on everything he came out and asked, “Did you say $2000 down or $2500?” Of course we had said $2000 down, and of course he would say, “Oh well this whole deal is based on $2500 down. Is there anyway you can pay $2500, or $2000 now and $500 in three weeks?”

OMG I was so annoyed. I just told Paco to pay it all now and I would help him because I didn’t want to have to deal with this anymore. MORONS. Unfortunately we were not able to take the car home Monday night because Paco only has liability on his other car and he needs full coverage to leave the lot, and at the time we made the deal it was about 9pm. We went back last night and finalize it all and finally left with the car. Hallelujah! No more sharing my SUV and carpooling!

After the car place we went to dinner with Michelle, Eric, and Javi at Friday’s and then went to see Music and Lyrics, which was totally cheesy, but still funny. The only thing that bothered me was Drew Barrymore. Did she have a stroke at some point in her life, or does she intentionally talk like half her face is paralyzed? And are we really supposed to believe that Hugh Grant would fall in love with Drew Barrymore? Cuz I ain’t buying it. Still I liked the movie and I thought it was pretty funny.

Something to say?
