Didn’t do much this weekend. Friday I went shopping with my sister and then went to have dinner at Tres Amigos, where I got lied to by the menu. This is another one of my pet peeves. I hate when restaurants put bad, incomplete, or incorrect descriptions of their menu items. It amazes me that they are not more careful with this, considering how many food allergies there are.
I was very hungry, but I knew I would have to eat dinner again with Paco later, so I decided to order something light. I ordered the Tortilla Soup. The menu said it was a traditional Tortilla soup with chicken, tortilla strips, corn and avocado. It sounded good enough to me, nothing too gross. I ordered it and asked for it without avocado.
What I ended up getting was a wet salad. Seriously, there was hardly any soup and tons of vegetables. It had chicken, corn, cilantro, onions, peppers, tomato chunks, CARROTS, and more. Seriously???? And they were all LARGE chunks of vegetables, not small seasoning type pieces, but HUGE hearty pieces. It baffles me that they listed CORN on the menu description but none of the rest of this. I’m used to seeing corn in my tortilla soup, but CARROTS?
I was super annoyed. I should have just sent it back, but I ate the tiny bit of chicken and the soup and didn’t say anything. If you are going to list ingredients, you should list them all, or just don’t bother! I have never seen a tortilla soup with so many ingredients. It was honestly like a wet salad, or pico de gallo with broth.
Usually I’m really good about asking what comes in my item before ordering it, but I slipped up this time. I guess I figured since they listed the corn, chicken, and avocado, that nothing else was in it. WRONG. This kind of stuff happens to me all the time.
I’m always very careful when I order my food. I’ll order it two different ways just to make sure they get it. Like, I’ll say, “I’ll have the chicken sandwich without the lettuce and tomato. I don’t want any veggies, just chicken, bacon, and cheese.” And amazingly, people still get it wrong. One of these days I’m going to throw a fit and be like, “OMG I’m allergic to tomatoes and I just bit into one! I ordered this without tomato!”
Anyways, so later that night I went to dinner again with Paco and we went to Baby Acapulco’s. I ordered tortilla soup again because I was still craving it. This time it was MUCH better, just chicken, tortilla strips, cheese, and broth. Neither of my soups that night were anywhere near as good as the one Paco made for me, but whatever. Actually, Fonda Son Miguel makes a really good tortilla soup, very much like Paco’s.
Saturday Paco worked most of the day and I watched movies and did a LOT of sleeping. I watched Goodbye Lenon, which was not what I had expected from having seen the trailer. I expected it to be a little more humorous, but I was all really sad. I still liked it a lot though.
Saturday night I made dinner for us. I made beef tenderloins (wrapped in bacon) with mashed potatoes and rice. I usually don’t eat red meat, but Paco loves it, so I decided to be nice and cook it for him.
Sunday I woke up a little early and cleaned the apartment all day, and did laundry. Ok, I did some shopping too. I had to buy a few things for cleaning, and I bought some stuff that I didn’t really NEED, but definitely helped improve my apartment. Paco had said he would make dinner for us, so I was all excited. I was wanting enchiladas or something with mole. Instead, he made fried chicken. That was SO not anything I would have expected, but it was still good. He made the chicken and I made a Caesar Salad.
This week is my birthday! I will be turning 30 again, and celebrating in the same restaurant that I turned 30 in last year. Paco took the night off, so I’m excited about that. He’s met all of my friends by now, but this will be the first time all them will be together in the same place with us. It’ll be a blast.
