I went to see Date Movie last night with the Tuesday night gang. We went to Alamo Drafthouse at Lakeline, which in my opinion, is the nicest Alamo Drafthouse. It’s just like a regular theater, but they serve food and they have a full sized menu and a full bar. I had the chicken fingers basket with fries and an iced tea. I don’t really like eating in the dark, but the idea of having dinner while watching a movie in a theater is kind of fun.
The movie was, as I predicted, stupid as can be, but still very funny at times. It was kind of like watching a really long MadTV sketch. You know how some of their sketches (as well as Saturday Night Live’s) are really over the top and they go on for just a little too long? Well, that’s how some of the jokes in this movie were. Or maybe I just think subtle humor can be much more funny than overacted sight gags.
Alyson Hannigan was pretty funny in her role, although it wasn’t any kind of stretch from her usual roles. If you like her in How I Met Your Mother, then you’ll like her in this as well. Jennifer Coolidge is hilarious imitating Barbara Streisand from Meet The Fockers, she totally nails the part. Does anyone else think Alyson’s sister in this movie was supposed to be a parody of Bai Ling?
There were a few jokes in this movie that were completely out of place, like the Michael Jackson trying to entice a boy in the alley bit. That had no relevance to the story line or the scene, and it was kind of a distraction to what was going on. I think the writers just threw in everything they could possibly think of to try and be funny, and half the time, it just doesn’t work.
On IMDB it has almost 1,217 votes and it’s rated 3.5 stars. I would definitely give it more of a 5 or 6, but if you haven’t seen it yet, I would wait until it comes out on DVD. It would probably be a lot more fun to watch with a big group and lots of alcohol, but then what isn’t?
I’m still all soar throated this morning. I have cough drops and spray though, so it’s a little more tolerable. The best thing is that when I use the cough drops, the pain goes away but I get to keep the raspy deep sexy voice. HOT.
My camping trip this weekend may be canceled or postponed. The camp grounds called Dustin and said that there’s a fire ban. Um, it’s going to be rather chilly and wet out, if we can’t have a fire, it’s not going to be very fun. We may postpone or just have a sleepover/game night at Dustin’s instead.
