I wasn’t going to go to dance class anymore because Eric dropped out at the end of two-step, and the next class was going to be waltz. I learned to waltz before I learned two-step, and I know how to polka waltz as well. However, Monday night I was chatting with Mark and he said he was going to to go to class, so I decided to go as well. So last night Mark was my lead in Waltz.
I had a good time, and the class is always fun, but they play the SLOWEST waltzs and it drives me crazy! I know that they do it so that the other people can catch on to the steps, but OMG it’s killing me. I like really fast waltzs, well actually, I like to dance fast to everything. I like the workout!
After class I went home and watched a video. It’s an OLD video from when I used to dance with the University of Texas Ballet Folklorico (El Grupo de Danze y Arte Folklorico de la Universidad de Tejas), which is Mexican folk dancing. I had been talking about the dancing with Mormon Micki earlier in the day and I told her I would bring the tape for her to see. I wanted to watch it before I gave it to her, because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too embarassing.
OMG I was cracking up watching it! I think the performance I have on tape was only my third, so there were a couple of mistakes that I saw. Two of the mistakes were REALLY obvious. I danced for four years, so I think I got pretty good after a while… but in some of the earlier performances I made stupid little mistakes. The video is really poor quality, so at times it’s hard to figure out which dancer is me… but the thing that gives it away is that I’m the TALL white guy.
Also, in some performances the outfits and the hats make it hard to figure out which one is me, but the girls are all wearing different colored dresses, and that’s how I can tell where I am. The dresses were made in different sizes, so the tall girls usually wore the dark blue or green dress, and nine times out of ten I’m dancing with the girl in the green dress.
Anyway, it was so much fun watching and remembering all those good times. I would love to do it again, but I would have to go pro and dance with Roy Lazano’s Ballet Folklorico, and they practice way too much for me. I don’t want to give that much of my time up. A long time ago I was at the auto shop with my car and the president of that group was there. He said he had seen me dance and liked my style. He asked me to join his group. I wasn’t ready to leave my group at the time, so I passed on it. I wish I had done it.
Oh well… pity! It’s time for me to get to work!
