I do not work well on less than 8 hours of sleep. In fact I’m downright useless.

After getting my truck fixed up yesterday, which ran me $575, I went shopping with my sister for our sister-in-law’s baby shower. We bought stuff to make desserts and I bought my gift for them. We went back to Michelle’s place and baked everything. I made Smoreos (which was Michelle’s recipe, and delicious), sugar cookies (ok, so they were pre-made, but I had to break the squares apart, put them on the cookie sheet, and check on them!), and 7 little mini cakes. I was too lazy to frost the cakes, and I don’t like a lot of icing anyway, so I just melted the icing and drizzled it on the cakes. Michelle made mini chocolate cookies (pre-made as well), fudge (from scratch), and a Funfetti cake.

I think I picked her up around 12:30 and we were finished by sometime around 4. Everything was pretty much ready for the party on Sunday.

I made a date with Ivan and picked him up at 7. We went to have dinner at Manuel’s and there was a long wait, which was kind of annoying, but I really like the food so I was willing to wait. Manuel’s is owned by the same people who own Changos and Ivan is the manager at the south Changos. While we were waiting we had some drinks. Ivan had the Cucumber Martini which was actually pretty good, and I had a margarita with Sangria.

After about an hour we got sat at a bad table in the front, where it was all kinds of loud. But before we ordered, the manager came over and offered us a better table in the back, where it was more quiet. Ivan was being all shy about it, but I was like, “YES PLEASE MOVE US!”

Dinner was delicious and we had one more drink. I had the delicious Jamaica (hibiscus) margarita, and Ivan had a regular margarita. I ate the Pollo en Mole con Queso, and he had some kind of shrimp plate. I always eat the same thing there, and it’s really just an appetizer, but it’s so good and filling. When I ordered it the waiter asked if that was all I was having and I said yes, and he looked at me funny. I couldn’t even finish it all.

I convinced Ivan to go to Rainbow with me after dinner, and it was not hard to convince him. I just had to take him home to change first, then he went with me to my place to change. I had a great time out with him, and it was nice for all my friends to get to meet him. He doesn’t two-step, so I didn’t dance as much as usual because I didn’t want to ignore him. Luckily he had some friends there, so he did have people to talk to while I was dancing.

Ivan did dance with me to two slow songs and it was super sweet. He picked up on the two-step really quickly, and it was nice to get to dance with my man. The DJ also played five Spanish songs, and Ivan danced to all of those with me. I loved having a partner for those, because usually I’m scrambling to find someone that dances cumbia, and the selection is SLIM.

I went to my sister’s at noon for Lulu’s baby shower. The shower actually went pretty well even though only four of my brother’s friends showed up. So it was his four friends, him and his wife, my mother, my friend Gina and her daughter, Michelle, and I. We had lots of fun, too much I would say… but it was nice.

We played two games. The first one was the baby food game. You peel the labels off the jars of baby food and pass them around for everyone to taste. They have to guess what the food is. Michelle and I picked some hard ones likes Apples & Chicken, Peaches & Turkey, Squash, and something called Hawiian Delight. We had six bottle total. Everyone did poorly at the game, because the mixed ones are always hard to guess… and gross.

The second game was the diaper game. Michelle crushed assorted candy bars into diapers and everyone had to guess what candy bars they were. So we passed around the diapers and people could sniff or taster what was in them to guess. It’s just funny to see people sniffing and tasting lumps of suspiciously looking chocolate in a diaper. People did really bad at that game too, but Michelle and I also picked some hard candy bars like Whatchamacallit, Smores, Reeses Snack Bar, Milky Way, and Almond Joy.

After those games we let Lulu open presents and I took a bunch of pictures of her doing that, and of Citlali. Then the party was over. Yay! I came home and napped for a bit and now I think I’m going to watch Amores Perros on DVD. I was going to redecorate my apartment, but I’m feeling too lazy to do that. I think I’ll save that for Monday night.

I also need to work on figuring out what I’m going to have for dinner.
