Yesterday was lame for most of the day. I really didn’t feel like doing anything, and I didn’t even wake up until noon. That may seem late, but I didn’t get to bed until 4am, so it was still only eight hours of sleep.
Around 6ish I headed over to Sammy’s to hang out before going to see the fireworks. Our friend Matt is the Mayor’s assistant, so he got us into City Hall, onto the balcony outside the Mayor’s office to watch the firework. It was supposed to be an awesome view because City Hall is right at the river and that’s where they shoot off the fireworks.
We hung out for a while drinking wine and just watching people gather for the display. I was taking tons of pictures of nothing. By the end of the night I had taken 74 pictures. Not all of them turned out as good as I would have hoped, but I did get some good ones. I need to be more patient when taking pictures, like as in patient enough to give the camera time to focus. I’m such a spaz!
The fireworks started and we all just started laughing because the stupid CSC building (of which there is one on each side of City Hall) was blocking our view. We could see the fireworks in the reflection of the other CSC building on the other side though. I walked down to the street and sat on the curb and watched for a little while, but Austin fireworks are SERIOUSLY lame, so I went back up and took more pictures of random nonsense.
A little later we all went back down to the street to watch and I took some pics of the fireworks, but they didn’t come out like I had hoped. I was hoping the light would streak and make neat effects, but it didn’t happen… well not as much as I wanted. I really need to learn more of those special settings on my camera instead of just always using the “auto” setting.
So the firework experience was lame, but getting to hang out with everyone was fun, and getting to see the inside of City Hall and the Mayor’s office was fun. I was really surprised at how unfabulous the Mayor’s office actually is (which you can see in my pictures). I felt kind of guilty taking pictures of his office, like I was breaking some kind of security code or something.
After fireworks we all hung out for a bit to let the traffic die down, then Sammy and I went to Sonic to get something to eat. Mmmm… fast food at 11pm. I took him home then went home to TRY to go to bed. I could not sleep at all last night. My throat was really dry, like that kind of dry where every time you breathe if feels like your throat just shriveled up and turned to dust.
I kept coughing and coughing for ever. Then finally I decided that maybe it was just too dry in my apartment, so I got out my vaporizer (which I use mainly as a humidifier), filled it up, and turned it on. I also took a Vicadin because those usually make me super relaxed and I pass out. So I’m not sure of the vaporizer let me sleep, or if the Vicadin put me out, but I didn’t stay up too much longer after that was done… of course it was also 1am, so exhaustion may have set in as well.
